The United States Dragon & Lion Dance Federation is happy to announce this exciting opportunity for our Lion Dance community! September 1st through the 3rd in Houston, Texas, the USDLDF will be hosting a seminar teaching the fundamentals of the world-renowned Sar Ping Lion Art taught by expert masters of the style!
The course will be taught by Master Hiew Yun Cheong (Singapore) and Master Albert Fong Kong Yip (Malaysia). Both have extensive knowledge, experience and are 4th and 5th generation, respectively, disciples of the art. All participants will benefit from the lifetime experience these masters have in the world of Lion Dance. These two masters were hand-picked to teach this course by the 3rd Generation Inheritor of the Sar Ping (Lui Pai) Lion Arts Master Robin Chan Siew Kee.
This seminar is designed to introduce participants to the fundamentals of the art of Sar Ping lion dance.
While the course itself is specific to the Sar Ping style, the content will also be beneficial to lion dancers and coaches that simply want to learn more about this style or improve their understanding of the lion arts in general.

- 4th Generation Direct Disciple of Sar Ping (Lui Pai) Lion Arts under Grandmaster Robin Chan Siew Kee.
- Teacher and Head Coach for the National University of Singapore (NUS) Lion Dance Team.
- Main Lecturer at the 1st World Sar Ping Federation’s (WSPF) International Conference (Singapore, 2016).
Master Albert Fong Kong Yip
- 5th Generation Disciple of Sar Ping (Lui Pai) Lion Arts
- Head Coach of Khuan Loke Lion Dance Academy
- Secretary General at Malaysia Lion Dance Federation (MLDF)
- Secretary General at Selangor Dragon & Lion Dance Sports Association
- Director of Dragon & Lion Dance at Wushu Kuala Lumpur
General:
– Foundational stances.
– Basic beats and rhythms for drum, gong and cymbals.
– Understanding the essential dance steps.
– Improving dancers’ postures during performances.
– Harmonizing the lion steps with the musical beats of the style.
These topics will be covered in both theory and practice and the focus will be on teaching participants the basics of the art. The seminar is for all levels, however prior basic experience and knowledge in the art of lion dance is necessary to attend this event.

- There will be small brakes during practice as well as lunch breaks on both Saturday and Sunday.
